Galled Crank Pin and Shell Plate indexing

Hello,

At one point about 5 years ago I remember having a problem with a hard pull on the Crank Handle. At the time, I was able to loosen it up with some lubricant without having to take it apart.

Since then the press was packed up and moved and not touched for three years.

Just ordered a spare parts and maintenance kit for my SDB so I could clean and get it back in working order.

In preparation of receiving the parts to prep the press for use, I took it apart to see if there were other worn parts. What I found was the Crank Pin had been galled. Is there anything I can do to it (short of replacing) to smooth the pin out?

Also, while testing the Index lever assembly, I noticed it doesn't properly index the Shell Plate 100% of the time. From watching it move, the Pwal looks to be sliding under the shell plate after moving the shell plate to the next station. Then when moving the lever assembly to advance the shell plate the pawl does not make the proper contact with the shell plate to advance it. What could be the problem?

Is the Pawl part of the maintenance or spare parts kits I ordered?

The crank pin is hardened, so all you need to do is use a wire wheel or cratex wheel to clean off any metal transfer. Do use grease on the pin and inside of the handle and shaft.
On the shellplate indexing, be sure the bottom angled surface of the index lever is greased. The steel pawl should snap up into the hole in the shellplate. It might need a drop of oil on the crosspin it pivots on.

Thank you
