Greassing

Can anyone tell me what type grease is used to pump into the zerk fittings on the XL650?

I use regular old axle grease, the kind that came prefilled in my grease gun. Works great. Just 10-30 motor oil on the shaft, anything else gets sticky.

I bought my 650 way back in 2002 or 2003 - On the grease and lubricating video it says there are grease fittings on the pull down handle on both sides - mine does not have those. Any ideas on how to grease the handle area?
