hand loads look different than factory ones?
Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 3:20 pmI'm new to reloading and I just made my first 50 rounds of 9mm and I'm a little leary about testing them out. I used once fired PMC Brass and after I got them done I set a reloaded round next to a factory loaded PMC round and I can tell just by looking at them that they look a little different is this normal? the cases on the reloads seem to be not the same circumference as my factory loads. but they seem to fit right in my lyman 9mm case gauge. I followed the load data and everything else but I'm Just a little nervous about squeezing the trigger for the first time on my first set of reloads. don't want to blow up a barrel on a 700 dollar gun over a 21 cent bullet.

Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 8:11 pmI appreciate the response and thats exactly how I set my dies. but the question I was getting at though was can you tell a difference between a factory load and a hand load.

Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 8:46 pmanswer is yes factory loads are all new brass bullet all is new your hand loads with once or more fired brass cases have been stretched out so they will not look like factory rnd it is not possible hope that helps I load 9mm 40 cal & 45acp none look like factory but all shoot with great accuracy and are very clean and with ammo or components hard to get now loading your own you can load light to save on materials .

Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 9:13 pmThe sizing die doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the case so you end up with a slight "coke bottle" shape to the case after it's belled and then crimped into place. All of mine look that way and I shoot about 1000 of them a week.

Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 9:49 pmI was referring to the decap die the pin going all the way down to knock out old primer and it will also resize the brass correctly and then goes to bell and pwd die .
