Hard indexing shell plate, powder spilling?
Quote from Reloader on May 24, 2013, 1:19 pmHi Dillon,
I'm enjoying my new XL-650, my only issue is the hard shell plate indexing and powder bouncing from the cases. Unsure why this hasn't been resolved since it appears to be a common problem? Check out some cures posted back in 2009 on the BrianEnos.com forums.
Lastly, how do I register my new Dillon press?
Thanks
JPM

1) Index Pawl
more important
2) Ring Indexer where it slides on the Indexer Block (this can make a huge difference with a bit of grease!Good pictures of each in the manual. Pages 48 (Indexer Block part 18) and
Page 52 (Indexer Pawl - small amount of grease) and Ring Indexer (part 20) ..

Quote from Reloader on May 28, 2013, 4:23 pmI just use my middle finger to hold the case as it travels from station #3 to #4
I pick up a bullet with my thumb and pointer finger, place middle finger on side of case....advance round to stage 4 and put the bullet on. Saw a guy use this technique in a youtube video.
You can take the shellplate off / remove the detent ball / clip the spring method as alot of people do
Or by a kit off amazon that uses a spacer to fix the "problem"
I just preferred using the technique and not spending the money or potentially ruining a part

Quote from Reloader on May 31, 2013, 6:00 pmhave had my xl650 for about 4 yrs now, loading mostly 38 special, and 223 cal. Used to have the same problem and primers turning sideways upon seating them, till I loosen up shell plate bolt 1/4 turn, and took my time watching, in production of making ammo. More so with 223 and the like small rifle. Hope this works for you, it made all the difference for me. DW
