Hollow Point Misfeeds
Quote from Reloader on January 4, 2012, 4:59 pmI am loading copper plated .45 ACP 200 Gr Hollow Points. About 5% of the rounds missfeed in 1911. Less missfeeds when testing with new magazines but still close to 5%. Tried Kimber and Ruger SR 1911 with similar results.
Rounds come up the feedramp and strike the top of the chamber never fulling leaving the feed lips on the magazines. Most push the rounds back into the casing.
Neither gun has a problem with plated round nosed or SWC bullets. Both guns have several hundred rounds (<1000 rounds) through them.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Norm

take it home and measure the case length, it's the COAL measurement, also measure the very top edge of the case diameter. I shoot LSWC Rogers Better Bullets 185 & 200 grain semi wad cutters and when I taper crimp them I set the die so I get .470 across the case mouth, I don't get
feeding problems. If you are reloading and you're using less powder the real big thing is that your recoil spring might not be strong enough with the few grains of powder to fully push back the slide. Case length, full length case resizing, a good taper crimp will alleviate the problems. Work this out in small steps and by all means keep good records on what you do as a
reference. Hope this helps, regards Bluerocket
