Horniday OAL gage (stk#14622), will it work for AR-15/AR-10 chamber measurments?

Will this overall length gage  work to measure the bullet OAL  in the AR-15/AR-10 platform?  I may not have a clear understanding how it works, but it seems that one could not take this measurement with the bolt and bolt carrier in battery.  I have previously used trial and error to seat a test bullet to a depth that just engaged the rifling, measured this distance, and then subtract the 10 thousandths from that measurement to get the OAL for specific bullet/rifle combinations.

This device is used with the BCG out of the firearm. You push the assembly into the chamber; the modified case goes in until it is stopped by the shoulder of the chamber, while the bullet contacts the rifling and gets pushed back into the case until the case can't go further forward.

In a semi-auto rifle, it is unlikely that you can seat a bullet out far enough to get that close to the rifling. The magazine box is typically the limiter to cartridge overall length.

This is the information that I was looking for Dillon.

Thank you
