How to find the best coal for your pistol?

Hi I was hoping someone could help me understand case overall length better. I have been shooting Precision Delta's 115gn RN fmj bullets for two years. My Lyman 49th addition book dosent have a recipe for a 115 fmj rn only a HP. Not sure why considering the 115 RP is the most common. At the time I figured the hp recipe would be ok because both weigh 115gn but never thought about the flater head on the hollow point being shorter. I have been using 4.7gn of Unique at a oal of 1.090 with no issues but was thinking maybe I'm pushing the pressure with that short an oal. Lees book says to start at 5.1 with a min oal of 1.120 I would really like to be around 1150fps for a 130 power factor for falling steel. Is there a way to figure out what the "ideal" oal is for your gun? Longest the gun functions at? A specified distance between bullet and rifeling? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been driving me nutz for days now.

Usually, the longer the OAL the more accurate the load should be, as the jump to the rifling is reduced. You must be sure the round fits and feeds in the magazine, and that the bullet isn't jammed into the rifling upon feeding into the chamber.

Ok so lets say I'm happy with the seating depth and want to go a little faster just add more powder (below max charge) and the depth stays the same?

Correct.
