How to R&R link arm pivot pins?
Quote from Reloader on March 14, 2017, 3:29 amI'm in the process of cleaning up a XL650 that have been in storage for years. After transferring the syringe of grease into a mini grease gun with the proper tip, I was able to grease the lower link arm pivot pin, but still unable to get any grease into the upper link arm pin.
I tried to disassemble the link pin but it appears to be pressed in. What is the correct way to remove the upper link pin for cleaning and greasing?

Quote from Reloader on March 15, 2017, 10:57 amMy XL650 was purchased in late 2016 so I am wondering if there was a design change. Mine has two Zerk fittings on the linkage. The pin at the bottom of the ram is held in place with a set screw. I grease that with a soft tip on the grease gun after removal of the hex set screw. With the set screw removed, the pin easily slides out enabling grease to be inserted with a finger for swab.

Quote from Reloader on March 15, 2017, 5:12 pmLook for a small lube hole in the machine frame above the upper pivot pin. You can squirt grease through this hole to lubricate the upper pin. The pin is a slip fit, not a press fit, on the XL650.

Quote from Reloader on March 16, 2017, 3:18 amTook both right side 7/8 nyloc nuts off and slide the whole assembly off with the left side link arm still attached.
For whatever reason, grease was not going into the upper hole and the upper pivot pin is completely dry. Lube everything up with grease and it is smooth and GTG. Thanks for the help.
