I need some powder funnel help
Quote from Reloader on August 13, 2016, 4:38 amI am loading some 300 Blackout Subsonic Lead Powder Coated Rounds. Problem I am having is if I get the case flared enough not to scrape powder coat and lead it sticks in the standard powder funnel. Someone told me to use the 30 Caliber funnel so I ordered one and put it in my powder drop on my 650 press.
If I guide the brass with my hand and align it this powder funnel does a great job. For some reason the case does not line up with the powder funnel just right. I took the plate off (the one the cases are help by on the bottom) and cleaned everything, made sure my lever is adjusted correctly on the powder drop station, it made no difference.
I have never had cases not align with the powder funnel, it does move around quite a bit. Could the groves that are in the Caliber conversion not be quite right? I used my Caliber conversion for my 223 I have and just ordered the dies. I have not loaded 223 on this press since I upgraded to the 650 so I have not used the plate before.
Anyone else had this problem that can send a little wisdom my way?
Thanks for any replays

Quote from Reloader on August 15, 2016, 5:21 pmthe 30 M1 carbine funnel will flare the case mouth on the 300 BLK. If you wet-tumble your cases, the lack of carbon residue inside the case neck may cause the case to stick on the funnel. Try dry-tumbling your brass instead, or use liquid automotive car washing soap that has the car wax in it. This will act as a lube on the funnel as well.

Quote from Reloader on August 16, 2016, 4:07 amThanks for the reply but that is not my problem, my case does not line up with the powder funnel. If I press it over just a little with my finger it then goes in with no problem and flares the case just fine. It is like it is out of alignment. My 650 is fairly new (like 3 months I think) and I have loaded 9mm and 45 ACP on it before I started playing with 300 Blackout.
Sorry if I did not explain it correctly.

Quote from Reloader on August 16, 2016, 11:41 pmA couple of things to check:
First, push down on the edge of the shellplate at station 4. If it feels springy, then the shellplate bolt needs to be a bit tighter. THe spring pushing up on the detent ball is applying enough upward force to tip the shellplate just a bit.
Next, tighten the die lock ring with a case up in the die. This ensures the die is centered in the toolhead.
