I want a bullet feeder die and a powder check die
Quote from Reloader on January 30, 2013, 12:12 amPlease let me know if I've got a reasonable plan for the XL650 I'm about to order. I'd like to have both auto bullet feed and a powder check die.
I plan to set it up as follows:
Pre: Auto case feeder
Station 1: Decap/Sizing/Priming die
Station 2: Case belling/Powder through die
Station 3: Powder lockout die
Station 4: Bullet feeding die
Station 5: Bullet seat/Taper crimp die
Post: Auto eject
Thanks,

Quote from Reloader on January 31, 2013, 3:26 pmIt isn't possible to seat and taper crimp at the same time, as you end up digging the case into the bullet. I believe the GSI bullet feeder, which uses it's own toolhead, seats bullets at the bullet feed station, allowing for both a powder check and a separate taper crimp.

Quote from Reloader on February 27, 2013, 4:05 amYou can use a Lee Precision die - depending on caliber - which will seat AND taper crimp your cases at the same time and your plan will work just fine.
Lee pistol dies are a little on the short side and I've found that putting the locking nut on the BOTTOM of the due underneath the tool head works well.
I'm considering an RCBS bullet feeder but having run over 65,000 rounds through my XL650 and maybe 25,000 through an RL550 before THAT, I'm not sure I really need the thing. But it IS tempting.

Quote from Reloader on May 10, 2016, 8:44 pmLockout die is a good choice for #3. It does the same thing as the Dillon powder check (all either does is check for a no-powder / double-charge condition), and is much simpler, no batteries.
