Inconsisant charge

I have been reloading with my 550B for 3 yrs.  Lately I have noticed that at least one out of every ten rounds are grossly overcharged. This realization coming at the range with quite a surprise.  It is happening in both 9mm and .45ACP.  I have checked and all dies are snuggly in place and all other adjustable features on the reloader are tight.  Any ideas?  I am almost affraid to shoot my reloads in my .45.

Best guess is that you aren't consistantly pushing the powder bar the full length of travel. I strongly suggest you phone us while you are in front of the machine for assistance.

Highly suggest you call Dillon as suggested, however there are some tips that are common to all powder measures...

• Always place the first 10 "dumps" back in the hopper. No powder measure is accurate until the density of the powder is constant. The shaking of the powder measure helps the powder to reach a constant density.

• Fill the hopper at least 1/3 full. You can pour the excess back in the can after loading.

• Make sure you have the small powder bar installed for pistol rounds.
