Index Ring Sticks Intermittently

Was loading some 380 rounds tonight an every now and then I would hear a click. I noticed that the index ring would stick in the forward position and then snap back. Anyone ever have this happen? The rounds seem to come out alright, just had to slow it down a bit.

0. With handle in down position move indexer by hand. Look for a cracked or broken indexer. Usually breaks at the index paw, but I have seen other places on the ring where they have broken.

1. Index shell plate by hand to see if there is a tight spot. Remove shell plate, clean both shell plate and shell plate bolt. Grease shell plate bolt where shell plate rotates. Small amount of grease on edge of holes where index ball touches. Verify the shell plate is not bent. A bent shell plate can a cause tight spot at only one location. Wipe clean the top of the platform before installing shellplate.
2. While shell plate is off: Verify is no gunk on top of the index ring under the platform. A rag cleaning top of ring indexer on top spots between platform will work. Or remove platform and clean. Grease slightly on reinstall and time the machine. If you remove the platform you will need to re-time/align the platform again. Reminder clean and grease the indexer block. A dab of grease on the indexer block smooths up the indexing and lowers stress on the loader a huge amount.
3. Check for a bent index return spring. Also check that spring is on tabs at both ends, fitting in the groove on the main shaft.

Thanks for the help. Are the instructions to retime in the manual?
