Lake City .308 cases covered with residue after firing
Quote from Reloader on March 15, 2010, 1:59 pmI just finished firing some reloaded L.C. 308's and have noticed burned powder residue on the cases on 3 differrent powder charge weights.
I am reloading with BLC2 with the following powder charges: 44.5, 45.5, 46.5 grains.
Tips: 147 gr. FMJBT w. cannalures
Primers: CCI #34
Could this be a crimping issue?
I have not had this problem with any of my Winchester cases and did not make any adjustment to the crimp die prior to using the L.C. brass. The OAL is on the money, and the powder charge(s) are well within spec.
HELP!!!!!

Quote from Reloader on March 16, 2010, 1:26 pmIt sounds like the pressure isn't quite high enough to force the case mouth to seal off the chamber from the gasses. A tighter crimp might help. If the cases have been fired more than a couple of times it could also be the case neck is work hardening. Annealling would be needed to soften the case mouth in that instance.
