Large primer??

My wife just purchased me a RL550C. In setting it up it says to decide if I am using large primers. What is considered a large primer? I plan to load, .300 black out, .223 and .45. This is my first reloader so I am new to all of this. Any info or suggestions is appreciated

If you look in your reloading guide (s) it tells you which primer to use for a particular caliber. 45, for example, uses large pistol. I believe .223 and 300 blakout use small rifle.

I load 38, 357, and 9mm, which all take small pistol.

223 and 300 blk both use small rifle primers, and most 45 acp will have large primers. Here is where you need to look closely at the 45 brass you'll be loading. There are numerous (Federal, Winchester, Blazer to name a few) manufacturers that make 45 acp in a small primer format. Not much is worse than trying to push a large primer in a small primer pocket and have it go off. If it doesn't set off more, you are lucky. A good reason to wear eye protection when loading. After loading for a while, you'll have the experience and touch to tell when a small primer has snuck into your brass by the feel of pressure needed to try and set it. I have about 20 lbs of small primer 45 that I've saved in a large box and one of these days I'll load them with small primers. Right now I have plenty of "normal" brass to keep me occupied. Welcome to the board and you'll find that you don't really save any money, but you'll shoot more.
