Last primer does not feed
Quote from Reloader on August 15, 2011, 10:54 pmI am having a problem when loading with large pistol primers only.
I normally load in batches of fifty, and rounds 1-49 resize and seat the primer properly. The last round fails to load the primer cup and I find the primer on the bar behind the cup, then manually place it in the cup and complete the resizing and priming. My workaround at this point is to fully run the case into the resizing die, and tap the primer tube while the cup is under the tube, which will cause the primer to enter the cup.
Can I resolve this by a slight adjustment of the travel limit screw so that the outward travel wil place the cup more directly under the primer tube? I am thinking that the cup should have a slight bit more rearward travel since the primer appears to be falling behind the cup and onto the bar.

Look down through the empty primer magazine while still installed. Slowly pull the handle down, observing how far back the primer slide comes. You should see the primer cup come barely past being centered under the magazine. If not, adjust the set screw minutely .

Quote from Reloader on August 16, 2011, 9:29 pmIt was even easier. When the primer cup moves toward you to pick up a new primer it (as you mentioned) it hits an adjustable stop screw and should place the cup under the primer feed tube. It is pushed back by the operating rod, part #13869. So far so good.
I tested the pickup position and it had a few thousandths more to go before it hit the stop. AHA! Bent the operating rod slightly to add tension and the problem was resolved. It now hits the stop on every operation.
I will now add checking operating rod tension to my regular maintenance and cleaning drill.
