Last primer in the primer feed tube is hanging up.
Quote from Old Retired Guy on December 25, 2023, 3:04 amHello folks,
Ive recently encountered an issue with my small primer feeding tube.
My press has ran like a top for over a year with little to no issues with feeding primers other than the occasional missed primer.
Recently though, when I load 100 primers in the primer feed and run the machine it will run smooth as glass until i get to the last primer in that run. it hangs up every time. and wont drop until i unscrew the primer feed cap and mess with it some, then sometimes it drops in the cup and sometimes it ends up on the primer slide bar just behind the cup.
Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this annoying problem would be appreciated.

- Probably time to replace the plastic primer feed tip
- Add some weight to the top of your primer plunger rod (a 45 acp case works for this)
- re-align your primer feed tube
I would do these steps 1 at a time until the problem is resolved

Quote from Old Retired Guy on December 26, 2023, 1:02 amIve done all those things. I appreciate the input but those are the first things I thought to do except for the weight on the rod. I did that day one of having the press . and Ive messed with it for almost 2 days now. the problem is still occurring.

Quote from Xiphos on December 26, 2023, 10:22 pmI would re-install the primer feed assembly, carefully following the instructions.
For many years, I used a piece of coat hanger to ensure positive feed of the primers. Then, when the low primer warning device was released, I purchased one of the plastic rods. Some years later I installed the complete warning system.
The plastic primer feed nipples are cheap but pretty resistant to wear or damage.
In this day of folks clamoring for reloading components, I believe primer production quality has slipped, dimension-wise with some manufacturers.
Whose are you using?

Quote from jamm on June 4, 2024, 1:19 amI tend to agree with you on the quality of the primers. I was using cci primers forever but was running low so sold my Grandaughter sold my hunting dog and lost an arm and leg but I got some primers. Started using the new ones and was having alot of trouble. Went back to the older ones and no more problems also the federal ones I came across new work really well.

Quote from The Human Manual on June 4, 2024, 5:45 pmWe have found as much a .001" eccentricity in current domestically produced primers. They should vary half of that.

Quote from lewmed on June 6, 2024, 11:39 pmI have loaded close to a hunderd thousand rounds on my xl750 and have needed to replace the plastic tip on the primer magazine 3 or 4 times. The one that came on the machine only lasted a few months.
