Leaking Powder Measure
Quote from Reloader on December 17, 2010, 10:41 pmThere are always a few kernels of (Bullseye) powder on top of the powder bar.
Is this normal?The powder measure was jamming on return, and I polished the sliding parts
which seems to have cured that very nicely.It drops very accurate measure, but always has a few bits of powder
on top of the powder bar which fall off onto the bench.Is the powder bar too loose a fit in the body? It does feel sloppy.
Normal?
Any comments?Thanks;

Quote from Reloader on December 20, 2010, 3:27 pmIt sounds like the powder flakes are sliding between the powder bar and spacer. Put a piece of tape on top of the spacer bar to shim it down a few thousanths.

Quote from Reloader on January 21, 2011, 9:41 pmTried the Tape suggestion .... did not solve the riddle. I do have another SD machine that was set up for a different caliber. I swapped the entire Powder unit. No problem on the machine that I was loading Bullseye on 38s. However the problem now is on my machine set up for 45s (using Win 231. I think that maybe some of the Powder measure just might have a problem with the Casting. I've got 1 more that is set up for 45 Colt with a large powder Bar due to using Trail Boss. That measure with a small baar in it does not leak. I'm going to put the large bar in the leaking powder unit and see if it leaks the big donuts of Trail Boss. If it still leaks, I'll be on the phone looking for a new Powder measure.

Quote from Reloader on January 22, 2011, 4:42 amYou should not be polishing the powder bar or any of the areas where the powder bar slides. Even a small amount of polishing can cause a leak. I should say will cause a leak. This has been confirmed by more than one person I know.
The only please to polish is the cone. This improves powder flow and provide a more consistent charges.
