Loading a shell on to the shell plate

I'm having problems fully loading a shell on to the shell plate. I've had no issues in the past but it just started happening now. I have a 9mm brass ready in station 1, one in station 2 ready for a primer. When I press the handle forward and seat the primer the cam slide doesn't move forward to fully engage the brass in station 1. I have to manually push the cam slide in to set the brass in station 1.

Check the adjustment of the Case Insert Slide & Slide Cam (1) on page 52 of the manual. It is discussed on page 37 in the how to do a caliper conversion.

Mine apparently was not as tight as it needed to be and over several thousand rounds it had shifted enough that cases were not going all the way into the shellplate, and catching on the sizing die. I would not over-tighten the bolt. Just check it from time to time.

I've been adjusting that very thing. It appears the Case Insert Slide Spring(13) isn't pushing the slide(2) all the way forward. It only advances in to the point the handle needs to be pushed to the aft stop, from that point I need to manually push the cam slide to seat the brass case.

Did you check the steps in the troubleshooting section on page 41? If not, check the third column, about a quarter of the way down, under C.

I have never had any trouble with any of those items. Perhaps the Dillon guys will have some other ideas. But it may be Monday before they check in.

Good luck!

I’m new to reloading with the Dillion XL650. I was wondering if the shell case holder is interchangeable? Can I use a hordany case shell plate in place of the Dillion shell plate ?

Hornady and Dillon shellplates are not interchangeable.
