Long case feeding
Quote from Reloader on May 7, 2016, 4:03 pmI have had a XL650 for the past 4yrs and found it will not feed long cases worth a darn. When I run .30 Carbine I have to add a wire add the case drop because they fall over and don't line up with the drop tube. I have adjusted the cam so many times I just gave up and added a wire to tap the case so it would drop. I have this problem even worst with .223. So bad I won't even load .223.. They say this machine will run 600per hour.. I have not even come close to that. Jams, case feed failures, spring failure. over and over. It is better that single stage but I am to the point that not much better. I load .308 single stage and do it faster than .223 in this machine.. I run 5 calibers on it and now down to 4 since I will NOT run .223 on it. Way too much hassle and waste trying to even get one hundred rounds out of it in an hour.. Even when working well there is NO way this machine will run 600 rounds an hour..

Quote from Reloader on May 9, 2016, 4:03 pmYou probably just need to turn the cam on top of the case feed slide around. It has two sides, rifle side for long cases, and the pistol side, for shorter cases. The speed that the pivoting arm pushes over changes, so the taller cases don't drop so early. Refer to the machine manual for details.

Quote from Reloader on May 10, 2016, 12:40 amI tried it both sides and same problem.. Did change over to .45 cal and ran 3000 with no problems. According to the manual you use the same side as pistol since the .223 case is short. The problem is the case tips in the indexer and won't fall. Seems like the green collar is too big and doesn't hold the case vertical to drop properly.

Quote from Reloader on May 10, 2016, 12:43 amThe problem is also with .30 carbine.. They fall to the side wedging in the collar and hook on the sharp edge of the drop sleeve. Almost like the drop sleeve needs a chamfer.

Quote from Reloader on May 10, 2016, 4:56 pmIs the pivoting arm being pushed far enough over to center over the body bushing? Are you using the small case feed body bushing? ( the aluminum one) I recently loaded about 4K rounds of 223 on an XL650, never had any case feed problems.
On 30 Carbine, a modified case feed plunger is necessary. Is the station one locator marked as #8?

Quote from Reloader on May 14, 2016, 12:01 pmI have found a fix.. I used the calibration kits and found that the drop bushing (aluminum) piece that came with kit is too small.. The .223 kit came with an X-Small and started using the Small and problem went away. Started running 9mmLuger and same problem with the same solution.. The kit came with a small bushing and change it to med. The problem fixed..Don't use the parts Dillion says.. Use parts that work.
