Maintenance and broken ring indexer

I cleaned and regreased every location on the machine where it was needed and oiled the main shaft. Boy, what a difference! I still was having some ocassional cases sticking on the ejector wire so I gave the wire and all the slots on the shell plate a shot of Dillon case lube. Since that time I have processed about 1500 cases and have not had a single problem.
In summary, I'm glad the indexer broke as now I have a thorough understanding of the machine and how to do maintenance. And thanks to Dillon for a great machine, the great service techs and the no BS warranty!

Yep, rebuilt a second 550 that came from an estate sale that was in bad shape. Dillon sent me every part that was damaged that I asked for.
I then purchased a bunch of parts that wasn’t covered by warranty like the low primer alarm which didn’t exist when the press was originally purchased in the late 80’s or so.
When I was rebuilding the press, I was shocked to see how well Mobil One motor oil acted as a degreaser. That old grease melted right off.
My 650 is due for a major cleaning, I will keep what you discovered in mind.

Lube ram with stp oil additive its thicker and stays on the ram better then just straight 30 motor oil. Grease parts that need grease with Lucas red n tacky.
