Marks on .45ACP RN FMJ

At station 3 of my SDB, I've checked and rechecked the bullet seating die to ensure I'm using a round-nose die for these loads.  When I press the bullet into the case, I find a ring around the bullet, about halfway between the nose and the top of the case.  My friend says I was using the semi-wadcutter seating die, but I pulled it out of the machine and compared it with the other die in the conversion kit, which has a flat profile to it, while the one in the machine has a rounded profile.

So, what could be causing this ring, or is it just something that happens with copper jacketed bullets?  Perhaps the copper is too thick?  They fit just fine in the case gauge, and I have no trouble with them cycling in my pistol.

If it's nothing to worry about, other than cosmetic, I'm not concerned.  After all, at the 15 - 20 foot range I'm shooting at, long-range ballistics are irrelevant.

Thanks.

Seating pressure is what is causing the ring on your projectile. Be sure you are flaring the case mouth at least .010" wider than a sized, unflared case. Otherwise, it is merely cosmetic, having no effect on feeding or accuracy.

Thanks...I'll give it a "shot".
