Milling out the top
Quote from Reloader on March 19, 2008, 11:28 amI will give everyone a good laugh this morning!! Bad thing about this question is, I am putting the cart before the horse, it is to early and to cold to go out and do some measuring!
Here goes, Has anyone milled out the head part of a RL450 so that you can use the 550B Die holder plates?
A friend and I bought a RL450 at least 25 years ago or so, brand new! Here 6 months ago I bought a 550B and it has ruined me, I have it set up for all my Large Cal. pistols.
And want to set up my 450 for small Cal. pistols. I have a good friend that is a forman at a big machine shop, but I thought I would ask here first. I saw a 450jr sell on ebay, that was the most butchered up thing I have ever seen. I have been trying to buy a 450 with just chassy and primer system, I have all the plates funnels, ect.
I would be great full for any help! Even thought of buying a Lee 1000 refurb.(but the thought of that all most makes me sick) 12 years ago or so, when lee just came out with the 1000's A friend of mine bought 2, a 9mm, and a 45acp, well you know who got to put them toghter, after that I said I never ever wanted to see one again! But when you are old like me, and all broke up, you want to pull the handle one time and get a finished round!
Sorry if I have wasted you good folks time! If this was out of line, please let ne know!
Thanks Greg

Quote from Reloader on March 19, 2008, 2:37 pmThere is not enough material in the 450 frame to mill it out to accept 550 toolheads. It is much easier and probably cheaper to merely purchase the 550 frame change kit, stock#20094 - $81.95. The shaft and linkage, etc all swaps over from your 450 to the 550, and takes about 45 minutes.
