Misaligned primer seating cup.

Hi there,

The primer seating cup of my 550B lost alignment with the hole in the shellplate platform. The 12 to 6 o'clock alignment seems perfect but now the primer seating cup is more toward the 9 o'clock aspect of the hole. This prevents the cup from coming up through the platform hole which in turns prevents completion of the upward handle stroke. Can this be fixed by loosening the shellplate platform bolts for the sake of realigning the platform hole with the primer seating cup?

I also noticed that the base of the primer seating cup makes physical contact with the main shaft. Is this normal?

Many thanks for your time and input.

Jacobo

What I do is slightly loosen the primer feed assembly, push down on the press handle and wiggle the primer feed assembly until it goes into the hole in the shell plate perfectly then with the handle in the lowered position gently and carefully re-tighten both bolts to re-secure the assembly. (Do NOT over tighten these bolts. They should be snug but not tight)

It sounds more like either the set screw underneath the primer slide that controls how far forward the primer slide goes needs to be slightly adjusted, or the shellplate is not indexing far enough.

I suggest you phone us when you can be in front of your machine for assistance.

Please do not loosen the two platform disc bolts! This alignment requires return of the machine to reset the disc alignment.

Thank you both for your input.

Since the primer slide set screw controls how far forward the primer slide goes (6 to 12 o'clock), how can its adjustment fix my 9 to 3 o'clock misalignment? I suspect that somehow my primer slide is no longer moving along its original path (6 to 12 o'clock) which may explain why the base of the primer seating cup is making contact with the main shaft.

I'll call Dillon tomorrow and let's see what happens.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to try to help me.

I loosed the two bottom screws and held it in the proper place while I tightened the screws. What puzzles me is how it got out of alignment... Please let us know what Dillon says.

I have had the same problem and fixed it in the manner described by Admin3. It works.
