Moving house next month and I have no idea which crates to get, help?
Quote from josestanton on November 5, 2026, 11:40 amWe're relocating from a flat in Dubai to a villa in Sharjah next month and I've suddenly realised I have no clue how to pack half our stuff. Last move we just used whatever cardboard boxes we could scrounge from the supermarket and it was a disaster, things crushed, boxes collapsing, the works. This time I want to do it properly but I'm overwhelmed by the options, wooden crates, plastic ones, the foldable kind, and I don't know what suits what. We've got a mix of fragile kitchen stuff, a lot of books which are stupidly heavy, and some awkward shaped items like a standing lamp and a mirror. I read a bit about choosing the right crate type UAE households typically use and it helped me understand that different items really do need different crates rather than one size fits all. Still not sure where to start though, should I just get a mix or is there one type that covers most of it?
