My 650 Arrived Broken!
Quote from Reloader on April 17, 2013, 1:30 pmI sold my 20 year old 550 to purchase a new 650. It arrived yesterday broken. I carefully opened the box using a pair of safety pliers to pull every staple. I carefully removed all of the parts. The press was wrapped in a white plastic drawstring bag. The primer tube system and press were in two pieced. I thought this was normal so I started the mounting process. When I was attaching the shoot on the right side of the press I notices what looked like a broken casting. I manufacture billet aluminum products for the motorcycle industry. Upon closer inspection I discovered that the platform was broken in two. The primer cup mount is mangled and one of the mounting screws is broken out of the casting. The primer tube is bent at the base and seems to be where the energy came from to snap the platform.
I am so freaking cranked off over this I cant even tell you.

Quote from Reloader on April 27, 2013, 9:01 pmTrue to their reputation Dillon came through with replacement parts quickly and at no charge. This is why I waited 3 months for a 650 instead of choosing a different manufacturer.
The box was intact and in almost perfect condition considering it had been shipped to a dealer and then to me. There is no possible way that the press was damaged after being put in the box. I carefully removed the staples because I had shipped my 550 all over the world and having the original packaging is important. This box had never been opened before. The press was still wrapped in the white plastic bag and it was not torn.
The primer feed housing tube was significantly bent, out 3 inches at the top from the base with a radius in the bend as opposed to a bend at one point in the tube.. That is significant and required a lot of force which was enough to break the platform. There are no impact marks anywhere on this press and short of throwing it from a moving vehicle, a drop could not have resulted in the damage.
The only thing that I can think of is that someone packaging presses was having a bad day when this one was packaged and deliberately broke it.
Every company can experience problems like this. It is how they handle the problem that is important. Dillon always comes through in the end.
I think a 1050 is in my future when components are available again.
Thank you Dillon Precision for making an excellent product and providing outstanding customer service.
