my old 450 B

Hello,
I am a big Dillon fan. bought my 450 B in the early 80's when I started shooting competitively. Which I did for many years. I only ever had one problem with it, the primer system, Dillon took care of everything they were great. Family issues got me out of the game for some years now. But now I'm back the kids are grown, GOT Divorced form the gun hater then I met my retired First Sargent US Armygirl 26 year vet that loves to shoot. YEA ME!!!! I Heard Dillon was doing a free upgrades so I called Dillon and I was told I missed it I don't understand that if your upgrading one of your machines there should not be a time limit, I am the original owner. But I want to start loading again with some new calibers so I need dies and tool heads but I cant find 450 tools heads What do I do.

Thanks Bob

There never was a free upgrade from the RL450 to the RL550. The 450 was replaced in 1985 by the RL550. The RL450 is a solid-frame machine, does not have detachable toolheads, unless you bought one of the very last RL450s we assembled in late April of 1985. We ran out of 450 frames, but didn't have the other automatic parts ready, so we sold RL450s made with 550 frames. If you have an RL450 with a detachable toolhead then it uses 550 toolheads.

That would explains alott. When I bought it it was called a 450 B so I have been looking at stuff thinking that 450 does not look like mine. When I last used it it worked great is there any upgrades I should do or just go with it

Thanks Bob

It will work great like it is.

From what I understand, this is not fact so you need to confirm, you should be able to put primer feed and powder drop systems, on this unit

You will already have the auto-eject on your machine. You can add the auto-powder measure and auto prime systems, and the low primer alarm.

Hello Bob

I had an RL450 back in the 80's that I converted to 550 when they came out with it. I was among the first to convert to the 550 frame/tool head. I purchased the frame and several tool heads. All of the 450 parts  fit onto the new frame. I kept the manual primer and powder control that the 450 had, as I preferred this over the auto system.

But as far as the conversion or upgrade, it was never free. However, the frame and tool heads/ pins were of minimal expense. I do remember that in my conversations with Dillon at the time, they were extremely helpful and told me what parts were retainable from my 450. I never had a bit of trouble with my press before or after conversion. As such, I never had to use Mike Dillon's No BS guarantee. I do know people who have had some problems, most due to their own accord, but the guarantee was rock solid, and true to Mike's word.

Personally, I will never use any other press.

I’m looking for RL450 parts. I’m curious if the RL550 mainshaft will interchange with the RL450 mainshaft? I’m trying to put an old 450 press back together as a gift for someone and need several parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rusty
