need help with xl650
Quote from Reloader on November 29, 2010, 11:43 ami just bought a used 650. the press is in pretty good shape. it came with 10 tool heads with dies and 8 of them had powder measures on them. it came with 2 shell plates one was a "W" and the other was a "3" don't know what they fit but would like to know. i gave 425 for it all. was that a bad deal? i know that i need the small primer assembly because it only came with the large. and i need some primer pick-up tubes. other than that i don't know what else i need. but it shouldn't be much. i want to know if i can just buy the shell plate if i already have the powder funnels? will the locator buttons work on any shellplate or do i need a specific one for each shellplate. i don't have a casefeeder on it but it did at one time so i assume i can just take all of that stuff off and use it with out it. i want to load for 45 colt, 45 auto, 357 mag, what shellplates do i need? i know i will need some more help but this will get me started. Thanks for all the help

Quote from Reloader on November 29, 2010, 2:08 pmThe W shellplate is for 10mm and 40 S&W, and the #3 shellplate is for .223 remington, 380ACP, and related cases. There is a chart in the center of the manual that lists what calibers use what parts. Locator buttons usually work for one or two shellplates only. All conversion parts are available individually.
45Colt uses the C shellplate, 45ACp uses the #1 shellpalte, and 38/357 uses the #2 shellplate.
BTW, did you have to wear a mask to get that deal? A toolhead with the powder measure and stand sells for $99.95, to give you an idea of how well you did!

You got a deal. Wish I could find one like that.
