New 650 and primer question
Quote from Reloader on June 9, 2016, 7:28 amJust got my very first Dillon XL650...been reloading on Hornady presses for 16 years and I wish I would have went Blue from day one! Wow, what a great press!
One question if I may...once I insert primers into the primer drop tube, how many strokes of the handle do I need to pull before dropping brass from the case feeder? I'm getting several empty cases coming around before the first primer rotates around to match up with a casing..how do I time a primer to rotate around and catch the first brass case that comes down the drop tube?

Quote from Reloader on July 18, 2016, 7:16 pm~50,000 rounds on my 550 and just started with the 650. 7 strokes to get it primed (pun intended) would have been a nice add in the user manual! I found the part where the manual says to pull the handle till you see a primer in station #2 then feed a case, etc etc.
My goal is to load 100 cases with no primers in the ski-jump and no unprimed cases getting filled with powder.

Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2016, 8:36 pmAh, 7 cycles...now I know...one of the things that I'm curious about is why the XL650 moves a "missed" primer ahead and then drops it down into the small collection chute? Sometimes, I need to remove a case because something happened to it, or it didn't fit properly in the sizing die. Then, when the next case is run through, that unused primer gets dumped. Not that it's a big problem, but sometimes, they come down so fast that they bounce out of the chute and onto the floor. Then it's down on my hands and knees to find the primer.

Go to ebay and search spent and live primer fixes. The best one I found is a small plastic bottle that screws into a new piece (replacing the ski jump). Works great. Also, get the spent primer fitting with a tube down to a bottle either on the strong mount or the one I have is to a 2 liter bottle on the floor. Its been close to year before I need to change out the bottle. About 12# of spent primers (They're brass so it goes to the recycling bucket for cash)
