New to reloading
Quote from Reloader on March 21, 2011, 1:29 amLooking to get into to reloading. After hours of searching and talking with other shooters the Dillon RL550B sounds like the perfect match for me.
I will be loading 9mm and .40 S&W to start with. I'm looking for you guys to help me out with a complete list of everything I will need to get started. One question I have, does the Rl 550B come with the powder measure when it's shipped or is that an extra purchase?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Quote from Reloader on March 21, 2011, 2:08 pmOne powder measure is included with the machine.
For your first caliber, in additiona to the machine, you will need: die set, powder scale, loading manual, primer flip tray, and dial calipers.
For each additional caliber, in general, you will need: die set, caliber conversion kit, toolhead and powder die OR quick change; it depends on if you want to dedicate a powder measure to the additional cartridge.
9mm and 40 S&W use the same shellplate. Instead of purchasing a complete conversion kit, you only need the W powder funnel (stock#13600) and three #2 locator pins (stock#14062)

something to clean the brass, a vibrator, a reloading manual to give you specs on loading sizes
primers, and bullet heads, and brass of course
here is a lower priced scale that is getting really excellent reviews

Quote from Reloader on April 1, 2011, 3:26 pmIf you are going with dillion I would suggest, roller handle, bullet tray, strong mount and tool kit (always using it and it fits to strong mount and is real handy). You don't need these things to get started but if you can afford them, you will be glad you got them. I ordered these when I first started and am glad I did. Dillion should give the option to sale the roller handle at a discount if you choose to get it with the reloading order. I have not taken the handle that comes with the set out of the box.

Quote from Reloader on April 26, 2011, 1:57 amIMHO Dillon correctly nailed the response. The other suggestions are very nice and can make reloading more enjoyable or simply less tiring. So those are things you can add on down the road.
I had my 550 about a year before adding the Stong Mount. Now I'm back at 24 months to add the bullet tray.
The one thing you do not want is a cheap scale. You want a scale that can serve you without changing for 20 years. Think about it. What good is a notebook full of tried and tested loads if there's no way to compare your old scale with your new scale? For my money the Dillon Eliminator is the best buy on the market today.
Cheers.
