New to the SDB

Hi, Newbie here.

I have been shooting an average of 8k rounds a year and so I have decided to purchase my first reloader. I struck a deal with someone in our club and so I got two second hand SDB's with several conversion kits for 9mm, 40, 38 super, 45 and 357 magnum.

I've downloaded the operating manual for the SDB and while reading it, I've noticed that the gunpowder dispenser on both of my SDB's are different from the manual. Mine has a return spring attached to the powder charger whereas the new SDB's dont.

Perhaps my SDB's are the 1st generation machines. How old could they be?

Anyone know why the return springs were removed in the newer SDB models? Should I be thinking of upgrading this part on mine? Are there any other parts that I need to be upgrading?

I just read that the newer SDB's feature a lock link preventing powder double charge. How do I upgrade my machine for that? I dont think sending my ones to you is a solution as I am an IPSC shooter in New Zealand.
