New650 & New to reloading
Quote from Reloader on April 2, 2010, 2:31 pmI have a new 650 loading 45 ACP, have 2 issues. First irregular powder charge. Using Red Dot, have checked all I can think of, bar seems to be traveling the full distance. Trying to set charge to 4.7, but get 5.0,4.7,4.9 on three pulls. Does some powder meter better then others, or could there be something else wrong?
Second issue, after loading round does mot quite fit in a check case. lead, and first part of the brass goes in, but the primer half of the round does not fit in the bullet checker case. I have cycled all these through the guns magazine, and ejected them through the extractor on the gun without issue. Is this an issue that they don't quite fit into the check case guide? if so are they maybe not getting the proper crimp.
Thanks

Quote from Reloader on April 2, 2010, 3:40 pmRegarding powder charges, be sure you are flaring the cases at least .010" to fully activate the powder bar. Be sure the hopper is at least 2/3 full, and throw 10-15 charges to settle the powder under the hopper before you begin weighing. Be sure the blue wing nut at the bottom of the return rod is tight enough to fully retract the powder bar.
With cases, size a few pieces of brass, then drop them into the gage. They should drop in at least up to the rim. Rim damage will often prevent cases from dropping flush into the gage. You may need to lower the size die until it touches the top of the shellplate.

You might want to go over setting up the sizing die again. But them those guages are made to SAAMI minimum specs.
Good luck.
