NEWbie first 5 loads..?

I just made my first ever reloads, I made 5 quantity .45 loads with 5.0 grains of tightshot and hornaday 185g hp xtp bullets.

The case didnt eject from my FNX 45t and the case looked like it was burnt on the side. Im assuming this is something that can be easily fixed..I know the fn loves a hotter round, is the burn from the case not being ejected due to a light load or is the crimp not tight enough?

Any help is good help..thanks in advance!

Tim

Assuming the you meant Tightgroup, check the Hodgdon website, you were probably too light.  If you meant Tightwad, this is too fast and probably won't cycle any semi-auto.

+1 to Dillon's comments.

A bit hard to say for sure w/out seeing it firsthand, but what you describe (burn marks) could be caused by insufficient crimp. If you don't crimp enough, the bullet will be dislodged earlier in the burn cycle than it should be and therefore the pressure in the case will not have built enough to expand the case enough to seal it tightly against the chamber walls. This will cause some gases to pass back along the side of the case between it and the chamber walls, further reducing the chances of a reliable extraction.

Check your powder charge, if no minimum is given, reduce the max by 5-8% and start there. Crimp on a .45ACP should be around .470" at the mouth.

Hope this helps.
