Old 650 & new powder measures
Quote from Reloader on November 13, 2016, 6:14 pmI see there has been changes to the powder measure actuation system in "recent years".
My XL 650 dates back to around the mid- 90's and that powder measure has a clip that secures the fail safe rod to the measure. The newer system is quite different...
I'm leaning towards a new tool head and measure for .38 spec while retaining my .357 Mag as is.... so the question is, is there an update kit to bring old measures up to date (or a retro kit to make new ones old) so I have a consistent mode of operation ?.....

Quote from Reloader on November 14, 2016, 1:01 pmI was unable to find the conversion kit number in a search. I dug back into my reloading parts and found: Powder Measure Bellcrank Upgrade Kit Instructions. I am sure Dillon still makes the kit to upgrade old measure systems to new. Just give them a call to order the kit. Maybe Dillon will post the kit part number.
Some believe the old return system provided a more consistent powder drop. I have found the new system to be just as good. The key to consistent powder drops is a steady/smooth return of the handle, with a light touch until you start to press in the primer.
I recommend upgrading the old versions to new so you have only one filsafe rod (new one has a bend in it).

Quote from Reloader on November 14, 2016, 3:15 pmFor the XL650, there never was a kit, as all XL650s have the failsafe system already. The stock # 97034 is for the two-piece lock-link, and the new style failsafe rod assembly is #22172. This new rod works on both older and current powder measures.

Quote from Reloader on April 8, 2018, 2:13 pmI am setting up a toolhead with all dies and Automatic Powder System including the failsafe rod. I have ordered an XL650 Quick Change item #22059. Does that item come with the failsafe rod? If not, what is the order number for a failsafe rod including nuts, washers.... I would like to leave the rod set at it's proper tension allowing a real easy switch over to next caliber.
Thank You,
Bill Giles
