old primers

I have some old primes that I found in storage maybe 15yrs.

Should I load 10 or 20 and test fire them or just trash them?

If it wasn't so hard to find them now, I wouldn't be asking.

They are still in the factory box.

They are probably fine as long as they were stored correctly. Primers never really go "bad", unless stored in extremely hot or damp locations. Just to be sure, you could load a few rounds and check them out.

Old primers are hard to kill.  I have used some that were much older and they worked just fine.  Load um' up.

We had some old primers from the 70's that we reloaded and shot successfully. They were stored in the closet in their original packaging since then. We were hesitant at first, but since supplies are tough to come by, we loaded them up. Shot fine, no worries.

As long as they were stored properly primers last a long time.  I recently found some Herter's large rifle primers.  Herters went out of business over 30 years ago.  I could not tell the difference in performance from new primers.
