Overhead Clearance on XL650

Hi All,

Newbie thinking about buying an XL650. I have shed in the backyard, but it's roof is a bit short. I just installed an old workbench at a good working height for me, but the overhead clearance is around 45" above the top of the workbench. I thought this was fine, since the recommended minimum height in the 650 manual is 44".

However, I learned that the bullet tray requires the strong mount, and that adds another 6" of height according to the website. So my question is, does the 44" minimum clearance mean 44" with or without the strong mount? If it is the latter, is there any way around this (other than lowering the height of my workbench, which would be very difficult for me)?

Thanks!

The height from table top to the top of the casefeed bowl on the 650 is 38.5 inches. If on a strongmount, this increases to 44.5 inches.

I suggest not using the strong mount, and just set a box of bullets on the bench to the left of the loader. The bullet tray is meant to augment the strongmount, not the other way around.

Thanks dillon! The way I have it set up, I don't have a lot of space on the left, either. What is the minimum clearance to the left and right that you suggest? I have a lot more room on the right, but the roof starts to taper downward from the 45" clearance after a few inches inward...

You may be a little short on height.  I built my 36-1/2" high 8ft long workbench two accomodate two presses.  I am 6'1" and the height is perfect for me.  With the XL650 "Strong Mounts" - the height to the top of the XL650 with the casefeeder is 41" on the side.  It is about 40 inches at the front.  In my basement I have only 8" cleareance at the rear of the casefeeder and 7" on the sides.   I have to hand load the cases in the casefeeder.  It would be much easier if I had another 8" and I could just dump the cleaned brass all in at once from my boxes.   I usually put a couple of hundred cases in at a time and its not to bad for me.
