PN#13691 Powder Measure Tube
Quote from Reloader on January 11, 2014, 3:45 amI am curious now from reading some of the forum topics and replies on powder removal and cleaning the powder assembly so I went out in the garage and tried to remove the plastic powder measure tube to clean out the powder left over before I stored my 45acp caliber set up and I removed the 2 screws and put some muscle to it but the tube won't move....(1).. My Question is should I even try and break a good sealed unit and what is the procedure for cleaning it for storage or if I wanted to change powders in the middle of loading....When I put the brush I have to it I had at least 3 grs of powder collected. Now in the 650 forum a reloader said that when he mixed some powders, it produced a smell...so how clean is clean when it comes to residue. (2)...Is there a way to keep the tube from getting that dark cloudy look when you leave powder in there or is that just normal chemical reaction to the plastic from the powder....dumb questions but I am curious. Thanks All Enjoy the reloads.

Quote from Reloader on January 11, 2014, 2:16 pmI remove the powder measure from the tool head and dump the powder back into the powder container and then cycle the measure by hand over the funnel in the powder jug to be sure that all powder is out of the powder measure.
I do this every time after I finish reloading.
As far as the powder hopper getting cloudy, I take it as being normal reaction of powder vs plastic.
I never leave powder in them, because I have read that it will destroy the plastic hopper, I don't know for a fact. I am just one of those guy's that all way's put's the powder back in the original container when finished reloading.AUG

Quote from Reloader on January 11, 2014, 7:58 pmThanks Aug1911....sometimes even after a year under my belt things that are simple, I tend to complicate....I was dumping the powder with the measure and dies still attached to the tool head into the funnel back into the Bullseye container....when really all I need to do is loosen the Allen Wrench screws under the measure and just remove that...gets me what I want for removing any left over residue and cleaning. Thanks for opening my eyes and have a great day....SAFE RELOADING
PS - downloaded the MSDS sheets for all the powders I use and it does mention something about storage....I will read up on it. THANKS AGAIN

Quote from Reloader on November 22, 2015, 6:09 pmThere is a simple and EFFECTIVE way to clean the Dillon plastic powder tube. First get an 8 oz bottle of Meguires No.17 Plastic Cleaner (Amazon approx $6.00). This is the stuff we use on aircraft windshields. Second, get a bottle brush of appropriate size. Remove the plastic tube from the measure housing. Wash the tube with dish detergent and dry it. Wrap a small piece of old towel around the bottle brush, apply a small amount of Meguires No 17 Plastic Cleaner and lightly scrub/wipe down the inside of the measure tube. Rewash the tube with dish detergent and dry. You will be amazed at how quickly the residue is removed. Do NOT expect a brand new crystal-clear tube, but it will remove the residue nicely and allow easy view of the powder level.
Have at it!!
