polishing parts

I have an older 550B and it is leaking Unique powder on the shellplate after dumping a powger charge. I think I heard that cleaning and polishing some parts would eliminate this issue as well as make the variation between thrown charges smaller? Currently I am getting as much as a 1.2 gr difference. I am trying for a 5.6 charge. I am currently weighing each charge on a Dillion digital scale, until I get these issues addressed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It sounds as if the powder bar is not travelling all the way over. Be sure you are flaring cases at least .010" larger than a sized, unflared case. Next, clean the interior of the funnel with solvent. If that doesn't correct it, please phone us when you can be in front of the machine.

i have had my best luck w/ ball powders or small extruded grain powders for loading on my dillon. i use 231 for pistols and benchmark for rifles that i shoot. i have also used aa2230 for rifles very successfully. i also polish my powder funnels. I did not have success with i.e. varget in my rifles.

maybe some other guys have suggestions for large grain powders.

this is all assuming you have the 550 working properly as dillon suggests. etc.
