Poor Threads On Small Priming Seat
Quote from Reloader on April 30, 2020, 1:11 pmI've owned my 650 for several years loading .45 ACP. It came equipped with two primer seating spring loaded bases. Normally I only shoot .45 ammo with large primers but recently purchased a 9 mm that requires small primers. I noticed that when changing to 9 mm the first turn or so with the screw in primer seater could be accomplished with fingers. Then it necessitated a wrench to continue until it was fully seated and tightened. This consumed time because I was using an open ended wrench so I could only turn the seater 1/3 a turn each time. I looked at the male threads with a magnifying glass but could not determine anything awry. Fortunately i happened to have a 7/16 inch 20 threads per inch die to chase the threads. In doing so metal cutting was observed. Now I can screw the seater in all the way to its seat with fingers which is a real time saver. My thinking was that the thread root diameter was not cut deeply enough by the lathe.
