powder bar adjustment
Quote from Reloader on May 18, 2015, 12:41 amHelping a friend to setup his XL650. just installed the 9mm conversion, and have installed the powder drop assembly. what is the procedure for adjusting the powder bar for the proper powder drop for 9mm?? I assume this done by adjusting the powder drop bolt, but cannot find any documentation on the procedure!!! the extra powder drop bar that came in the kit may have had the bolt turned a few times by inquisitve fingers!!! ist time dealing witha reloader!!! Thanks!!!

Quote from Reloader on May 18, 2015, 5:50 amAt the upper portion of this page is a dark bar with links. Click the one that says manuals and download the manual, XL-650 if that's what you're setting up. Different powders require different amounts dropped in the case as well as different bullets.. You need to weigh the powder and make adjustments to get where you want to be. Be sure to check a reloading manual for the caliber, bullet type and weight as well as what powder you are using. There is no one answer.
Enjoy, JJ

Quote from Reloader on May 18, 2015, 7:32 pmTurning the head of the powder bar bolt clockwise opens the adjustable cavity, increasing the charge weight. Turning it counter-clockwise decreases the charge weight. If decreasing the charge weight, be sure the powder bar is first extended, so no powder is in the bar when adjusting the bolt.

Quote from Reloader on July 11, 2019, 4:14 amI struggled with this myself and let me just say that the Administrator's answer was pretty ridiculous! No one answer? Really? The answer is EASY, in ALL cases clockwise turns increase charge and counter clockwise turns decreases charge. I personally appreciate the KISS-Keep It Simple Stupid principle and I think the so called Administrator should be told to try this principle. The 2nd answer was closer but man just ANSWER THE QUESTION!

Please reread the answers and then apologize for being rude.
I'm not an administrator and this post is very old, my point was the person is new to a reloader and I read that this is his first time and I wanted him to actually look it up in the manual. There are more than one setting for 9 mm was my point.
Have a good day,
JJ

Quote from Reloader on July 25, 2019, 1:36 pmFill your hopper with powder... tap on the bottom of the hopper to get powder to settle in the bottom of the hopper.
Take a used case that still has a primer in it and put it in station 2 and raise the ram to dispense powder into the case.
Now weigh the charge on a beam scale or an electronic scale.
When you find the right charge weight drop another 4 or 5 charges in the shell case and weigh them to make sure you have a consistant charge weight.
Also you can put a large washer in the hopper to keep a constant pressure on the powder so as it's used it will keep a uniform drop weightHope this helps and welcome to the world.of Dillon reloading
