Powder charge damaging cases
Quote from Reloader on February 7, 2018, 5:46 pmI am using 9mm Lee dies on my 550b (Dillon dies for .45 and .40) and in the Dillon powder die/funnel is damaging every fourth or fifth 9mm case. It rolls about 1/4 of the mouth of the 9mm case in. I have completely taken the tool head out, cleaned all the parts, taken the shell plate apart and cleaned it, adjusted everything twice and it is still doing this. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on where I can turn to correct this? This is a new phenomenon as I have made many hundreds if not thousands of 9mm on this press. I had checked for burrs or other areas that might cause this. But the die is smooth and clean. I am truly at a loss here
Thank you in advance,

Do you have the alignment tool?
Did you use it to align the shell plate holder? Is the ball bearing detent and spring functioning?
When you have the dies dialed in, do you have a shell in every station for the final snug down of the lock rings?
Is the powder die 'groove side up'?
(I am embarrassed to admit I did that once.)

Quote from Reloader on February 13, 2018, 10:19 pmPush down on the edge of the shellplate between stations 2 and 3. If it feels springy, then the shellplate bolt needs to be tighter. Our recommendation is to tighten the shellplate bolt down until it stops, back it up about 1/8 turn. Now snug the set screw on the upper left side of the shaft to prevent the shellplate bolt from tightening as it is indexed.

Quote from Agent376 on December 13, 2024, 12:45 amI know this is an older thread, but I am having the same issue. Done everything except align the machine. WHen I tighten the shell plate down, it is very hard to turn. Also, one side of the plate seems harder to turn that the rest; as if the shellplate is not flat and rubs on one side. I will tighten the plate bolt down and see if that fixes the issue.
