Powder Check Rod Sticking
Quote from Reloader on November 1, 2020, 11:28 pmI've been having a heck of a time getting my powder check drop rod to operate properly. The rod 's plastic, adjustable piece seems to stick sometimes, and doesn't want to remain adjusted! I place a weighed powder charge at the powder check station, raised the case, then adjusted to plastic piece so the alarm probe is centered on the plastic piece groove....seems to shift after less than 100 rounds, though I snug up on the locking nut. I did put a slight bevel on the upper edge of the hole through which the rod/plastic piece passes in the powder check assembly body; I also rubbed the plastic piece with fine steel wool and clean the assembly "hole" with a clean wire bore brush.
Thoughts?

Tried re-adjusting the die and it's still happening. I ordered the DAA magnetic powder check system and will give that a try.

Quote from ARMTGuy on June 19, 2023, 5:56 pmIt sounds like your cases are varying enough in internal volume for the sensor to sound the alarm. You might see which side of the groove the switch pin contacts, upper or lower, and readjust the piece up or down a little bit, so the pin still goes into the groove.

I got the DAA magnetic powder check system and that has been spot on and much tighter tolerances.
