Powder Funnel

Hi to the best loader in the business....need to pick someone's brain out there because I know there are many of them. After I prime my casing and go to drop the powder charge into the case my cases always seem to stick to the funnel. I tried removing it and cleaning it good and polishing it with Flitz but after awhile it begins again. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do besides screaming 🙂 . Also bought a 4 die set of 45ACP carbide Redding dies , are these any good for the Dillon XL-650 ? Is there anything special I need to do to set them up? Will be using a quick change kit....

Thank you powder sniffers.....:-)

The better response will be from Dillon, but I will give it a shot...

1) What caliber is sticking?  Are they rifle or pistol. How are you cleaning the cases. Some perfectly clean pistol case will need small amounts of case lube. :)  Of course all rifle cases should have case lube applied and let dry. When the case start sticking (I assume on the down stroke), then wipe the rim with a drop of Hornaday One Shot or case lube, let dry and continue loading.  Letting carbon build up on the funnel will actually work like a lube. Slow down on the down stroke where the case is pulling out of the funnel and that will lower the powder spilling.

2) Redding dies will work fine. Normal care is required in setting up the dies.

New brass, and brass cleaned ultrasonically will tend to stick to the end of the powder funnel. The carbon inside a fired case acts as a dry lubricant to prevent the case from sticking on the expander. With new brass, use steel wool or a scotchbrite pad to wipe off the end of the expander every 25-35 cycles to prevent galled brass from building up on the funnel.

Dry tumbling using corncob or walnut media will not remove this carbon coating, unlike wet ultrasonic cleaning does.

With new brass we recommend tumbling for a few minutes to remove the small brass flakes that are left during the impact extrusion process.
