POWDER FUNNEL

Has anyone had a problem with powder dropping from funnel after case has been lowered, is it possible my bell isnt big enough and powder is going down side between case and die..then falling out after case is lowered, i swapped to 357 dies and cant get a measurement to repeat.

Clean your powder die. You powder funnel.might be bridging powder

Be sure the powder bar fully travels to the far side before the handle bottoms out. The case mouth should be flared at least .10" larger than a sized, unflared case mouth measures. It sounds like you don't have the powder die down far enough.

Same problem here, using IMR 4895 in .223 cases. I've adjusted the powder die so that the cube on the bellcrank travels all the way to the other side with the handle pushed all the way down. The mouth of the die is just about to the bottom of the toolhead threads, I've cleaned the powder funnel using solvent and a quick pass-through with a bore-brush, and then wiped it down with dry cleaning patches. At first, there was no trouble with the powder, but my second set of loads is showing powder spilling out. I thought maybe the powder was bridging, so I pulled the powder reservoir/measure off the die, pulled out the funnel, and checked it. No stuck powder grains on the funnel. I have not adjusted the die any further than before, but I wonder, could it be a problem with too much lube on the cases creating a gap between the case neck and the funnel?

I've had issues with .223 dropping powder and it bridging. Be careful and not get much if any lub inside the case mouth. I've had the problem with both H335 and IMR 4064. Once I minimized the lub getting into the mouth the problem all but went away. Also take it a bit slower and give the powder a chance to get through the case mouth. Take a case that has the full powder drop in it and dump it out and see how long it takes. It will take just as long to get the powder in as it does out.

Thanks, Kevin. I run pretty slowly when I'm loading, whether on the 650 with rifle loads or the SDB with pistol loads. I did notice a lot of powder accumulating on the mouth of the cases.

I had put the cases in a plastic bag and sprayed them with Dillon's case lube, then shook the bag around a bit. I wonder if I got too much lube on them.

Joe,

I put a single layer of cases (give or take) in a 2 gallon bucket and then spray with Dillon lub. Then I swirl them around in the bucket before putting them into the case feeder. I found if I put too many in the bucket and the case mouths are sticking up they get too wet with lub and then I had powder drop issues.

Good luck,
Kevin

I know the instructions say to give a couple of spritzes to the cases, but I wonder if that's enough. I might have soaked the cases. I did let the solvent evaporate though, but there still might be too much on the case mouth.

Thanks.

Kevin, I cleaned up the powder funnel, then started loading with H335. Ran 50 rounds without a hitch.

Thanks.
