Powder Funnel Damaging Brass
Quote from Reloader on February 21, 2011, 3:37 pmI recently bought the 550B and have had no problem at all loading .45's. I've loaded 2,000 plus with no issues at all.
Just converted everything to 9mm (using the 9mm conversion kit so it has a new shellplate, powder funnel and alignment pins) and immediatley started seeing brass being damaged by the powder funnel/expander at the second station. It is clear that the funnel is not properly lining up with the brass case opening so it is crushing part of the top lip of the brass case. I can manually push the brass farther into the shell plate at station 2 and it will properly line up with the funnel, but if I don't, about 3 cases out of 10 will be damaged. I can certainly do this at each rotation, but I shouldn't have to.
I tried tightening the shell plate, but that didn't work. It's as tight as it can be and still be able to rotate it. I also tried to see if I could somehow realign the powder funnel, but it doesn't really have an adjustment feature.
It almost looks as though the No. 2 pins are too small to keep the 9mm brass in place at that station.
It feeds the small pistol primers perfectly and all of the dies at the other stations line up properly.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Quote from Reloader on September 3, 2013, 8:14 pmMay not be your issue; however, check the "platform" screws for tightness, NOT the shell plate rig. Had those boys come loose, after 10-20,000 rounds and the first signs were cases not lining up correctly - you should also be able to physically move the platform, if it is not properly tight. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_2eb626b277fe457084fced5209d3b61b(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } FCTB_Init_2eb626b277fe457084fced5209d3b61b(document['FCTB_Init_120b535afe644d1e85106b694efb102c']); delete document['FCTB_Init_120b535afe644d1e85106b694efb102c']
