I sometimes have a problem whith getting a constant accurate powder amount metered into my cases. This causes poor accuracy and misfeeds in my trojan .38 super. The powder thrower is kept at least half full and is clean and appears to function smoothly. The load is i usually use is 3.9 grains of ap70 (ADI).
press is a squre deal
Any tips to improve my metering?
thanks

Quote from Reloader on August 28, 2011, 7:16 pmPolish the cone down to the powder bar. Do not polish where the powder bar area. Keep the measure at least 1/2 full improves the drops. Make sure your loader is firmly attached to bench, that does not rock.
The thing that improved my loads the most was a consistent hand pull of the handle both up and down. A smooth movement is important.

Polishing wheel. Get a aluminum compound. Only takes around 3 minutes of polishing. No need to over polish. Stay out of the area where the powder bar is. That area has tight specs.

Quote from Reloader on August 29, 2011, 5:23 pmwhat actual weight variations are you experiencing? I would expect variations of +/- .1 grain. We use that powder here as Hodgdon International Clays. Be sure you are flaring the case mouth at least .010-.020" larger than a sized, unflared case mouth. This ensures the powder bar is fully actuated each time.

Quote from Reloader on September 4, 2011, 10:12 amthanks for the polishing tip should help i have polished it.I have got good results (very consistant)by attaching a small fish tank filter/motor to the powder holder.I read somewhere this helps whith these pesky flake type powders.
I have been using new and fairly well used cases,i keep them seperated .I adjust the thrower height to suit the cases i may have been caught out by not paying enough attention to this adjustment.cheers
