powder measure

I am very disappointed by the Dillon powder measure!!!

I read how Dillon had the most accurate measure, but it's not even close!!

Works good for 2400, win 231, for pistol. but just plain sucks for varget, and 4064!!

The magnum powder measure is no better with RL-25 and imr 7828!!! And I mostly load rifle.  Thats why I bought the Dillon!  Tried slow, smooth pulls, rough fast pulls, and everything in between. And I wait a second or two at the top of the stroke for the powder to drop.

I STILL have to hand weigh each load!!  which saves me no time at all!

I could live with -/+ .2, but never get that often enough to trust it!

load results for varget (looking for 46g) for 308 win. Nosler custom brass and R-P brass

Used the ex large powder bar.  This is not what I expected from Dillon!  Tell me what you think,  thank you

For charges under 55 grains, use the standard large bar, not the XL bar. Start with the hopper at least 3/4 full, throw 10-15 charges to settle the powder under the baffle. It should take at least one full second to move the powder bar from one side of the measure to the other. Be sure the powder bar is completely moved to the opposite side by pushing on the end of the bar when activated. It should not move. The blue wing nut at the bottom of the failsafe return rod needs to be tight enough to fully retrtact the powder bar. To adjust it, lift the operating handle up and push it forward, as if seating a primer, and hold it there. Tighten the blue wing nut until the coil spring above it is partially compressed.

For varget I would expect charge weights within +/- .2 grains. On 4064, a larger granule, most should be within +/- .2 grain, but expect the occasional variation of up to .3 grain.

OK, but I got the same results using both RL 25 and 7828 with the Mag measure!!!

I followed instructions to the "T" and checked everything many times-the charge bar goes full traval, spring has pressure, just like instructions say, (did this on both measures, by the way!)

Results for 7828 in 300 rum using Remington brass nd federal brass.

Looking for 87g 7828 (similar results with RL-25,  can list those if you want!)

And on and on!!

Again I am have the same problem with both measures! And with different powders!

All are stick powders, do not have problem with pistol powders, Perfect throw each time!

Thanks again, Jason  (by the way, the press is great, am VERY happy with it!, just those damn measures!)

Be sure you start with the hopper at least 3/4 full. Throw 10-15 charges to settle the powder under the baffle before you begin weighing. Some users report very good success taping a small aquarium pump to the side of the hopper to vibrate it, settling the coarse grains better.

Tape a FISH pump onto the measure???....Thats your offical answer??

I have tried different amounts in the hopper, and did MORE than 15 drops to settle the powder.

NO, with all due respect, If Im going to do any field mods, it will be to adopt my old Hornady measure to work on your press, it is a hell of lot more consistant than yours!

I have read all the internet fixes, AFTER I bought the Mag measure and had problems with it, I thought maybe I had a fluke, but the internet is full of people having the same problems!

I suggest you go back to the drawing board and try again!

I still love the press, and the super swage 600, they work great!!

Its just for the price of your stuff, I dont feel that I should have to modify your product in any way for it it work properly!

Im saying all this with the greatest respect, and will continue to say good things to my friends about your stuff, but will warn them about using rifle powders in your measures!

Thank you, Jason

I believe Dillon makes a powder measure adapter specifically for this purpose....  May want to give it a try, sounds like it is exactly what you are looking for and it is only $20....

I improved consistency by polishing the funnel.  It took less than 10 minutes.  Polish only the slope inside the powder measure, not the section where the powder measure slides.

i have used the 55b for many years. i find it extremely reliable and with only a small variation from load to load.

i tried varget one time in it for rifle and it would not load it consistently. i have since polished all of my rifle funnels and use small grain not stick powders. for rifle i mostly use benchmark and have used aa2230.

polishing definitely helps.
