Primer Feed Issue

I have a couple of issues.  I have had the SDB for 12 years and have reloaded MANY rounds.  However, I had purchased the spare parts kit and have rebuilt and relubed the unit using those parts.

My large pistol primers are not feeding well from the primer feed tube.  I need to press down on the primer follower (which fits into the primer magazine tube (22031) to get them to feed.  I am thinking I need new large pistol primer magazine orifice (14003) as upon inspection, I noticed it is miss-shaped.

I also have a problem with the primers flipping when using the SDB.  This is a recent issue.  I noticed a "hesitation" in the indexing shell plate movement.  Just to tell you what I have done:

  • I replaced the indexing level assembly with the one in the spare parts kit
  • I replaced the primer cup for the large pistol primer assy.
  • I used a digital caliper to assure the primer assy was adjusted to 1.41 inches.

The problem got a little better, but there is still a problem with flipping primers.  Upon inspection of the .45 ACP Shell plate, I noticed there was obvious wear on the shell plate where the indexing pawl contacts the shell plate.  I am wondering if that is a problem.  I have also noticed there is some "hesitation" in the return of the primer slide assembly during operation.

So, given that, here are the parts I believe I need:

  • Large Pistol Primer magazine orifice (14003) - because the one I have seems to be worn.
  • Shell plate bolt (13328) - I read in another posting that could be an issue.
  • Shell plate for .45 ACP (13504?)
  • Primer Assembly return spring (13798)

If Dillon agrees with me, please send them to:

If not, please tell me what you think I should do.

Thanks!
Dave

PS:  I can send a picture of the shell plate if you wish.
