Primer feed problem

I have an older RL550. I recently bought a new large primer bar assembly to try to fix a problem with primer feeding. As the primer retrieves a new primer and returns under the plate it is not lined up with the hole. I now have discovered the primer Housing & Shield part#20263 has a stripped hole for a bolt. Is this covered under warranty or should I fork over the money for a new one.
This forum is the best for finding out things about these machines. I tell everyone I can that you guys have the best answers.

With the press in front of you give Customer Service a call. They will advise you. I found every time I have a problem, a quick call to them and I am back reloading.

I have a New 550 B that has been giving me fits with the primer feed.  I had changed from the small pistol slide (which worked very well)  To the large pistol primer slide which didn't work at all.  The problem was the primer cup was too high to go under the tip of the primer tube.  Well after working for a couple of hours trying to get the thing in spec according to the manual, I just BOUGHT a new one which also didn't work.

Here is what was wrong:  Both slides were not adjusted at the factory according to the specs in the manual, the first one being completely incapable of that adjustment due to where the allen screw contacted the primer seating post inside the bar.  The bevels on the post and the allen worked to wedge the post into either to tall or too short a position. I called Dillon and made them aware of the problem and recommended a fix and was told that they would not do that.   Hmmm.

The new bar I measured right out of the box and it did not have the stated specs required, but I thought to see if I could make it work.  So I assembled the system with out attaching the spring or actuating rod.  I then pulled the operating lever down to clear the primer cup from the bottom of the shell holder.  I then attempted to slide the bar back and forth.  It slid well until just before the primer cup reached the little alcove where it would pick up the primer.  It would stick, and slide only with more effort than the spring was able to over come until it would at max stretch throw the bar forward causing the primer to  sail across the room.  (that is when I had the spring connected)

I disassembled the system again and examined the slide and checked it with a micrometer.  It had three high spots at the end that held the primer cup.  You can use Prussian blue on the slide and see the same thing if you know how to use it.

The fix.  I took a fine single cut flat file and laid it down on my work bench and drew the bar across the file a couple of times over each high spot.  Re- checked, and re-assembled.  The slide operated perfectly.  Then proceeded to flawlessly load 100 rounds of 45 ammo.   Those high spots were not visible to just simply looking at it, at least for my 65 year old eyes anyway, so measure it. Your problems may be a very easy fix if you know how to trouble shoot.

Next time I will take advantage of the no BS replacement policy.

I guess I am buying a new one

I purchased a new primer Housing & Shield part#20263, I took the old one off, saving the the primer tube and low primer alarm. Once installed it worked perfect without a hitch. I guess when you have a 20 year old machine these things come up. Don't cheap out just buy the right part once.
