Quote from Reloader on September 15, 2012, 3:33 pmBe sure you have the small primer magazine and slide assembly installed in the machine. All 550bs leave the factory set up for large primer. You will need to unbolt the primer feed system from the frame and pour out the primers before changing the magazines.
Deformation of the primers may be from attempting to seat them using a large primer slide, or from attempting to seat the primers into cases with crimped primer pockets.US military brass has crimped primer pockets, and can be quickly identified by not having a caliber designation on the case head, instead it has a manufacturers code and a two-digit date.

Quote from Reloader on October 23, 2012, 1:08 amI also have an occasional upside down primer but that is self induced. While I'm picking up primers with the pickup tube, if I encounter an upside down primer I flip it with the pick up tube and pick it up. Undoubtedly I sometimes don't get the primer in the correct orientation before I pick it up. I have fewer problems if I slow down and I still watch the primer arm on the machine as it takes the primer from the tube to make sure all is good.

Quote from Reloader on November 27, 2012, 3:53 pmThe tool plate can sometimes catch the primer holder, causing it to "snap" back into place when the ram comes down. I have had this happen & the primer can flip up sideways or all the way over. Best fix is to realign the primer slide so that it is perfectly centered in the tool plate opening.
