Primer indexing arm
Quote from Reloader on July 3, 2013, 11:01 pmI have had my xl650 for around 8 months now and have not been able to get my primer indexing arm to seat/advance correctly. I have tried everything I can think of and talked with customer service about it but it still hangs up. I waited until I switched over to small primers this week to call customer service because I wanted to see if that might resolve the problem but it's still happening. I have replaced the indexing arm, spring, and the u shaped washer but the arm still stops short of dropping back into the hole on the primer plate. I have cleaned, inspected, lubed, adjusted to bolt tightness, etc and I am at a loss as to why it will not work. Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix for it.
Thank you,
Ron

I bought a second priming system this week and it arrived today. The first thing I noticed was that the return spring was much stiffer on the new system so I took them both apart and the spring that shipped with my press is about 5mm shorter than the one that came with the new priming system. When I originally swapped out the spring after talking to CS, I matched it up with the original from the parts bag not knowing it was incorrect.
Anyway, problem solved and I now have two functioning priming systems. One for large and one for small I guess!

Quote from Reloader on August 7, 2013, 3:04 amI'm also new to the 650 after using a 550 for about 15 years.
My 650 primer indexing arm would also occasionally decide to not reset. What I realized was that the return spring would fold sideways in a little "pocket" while it was being compressed then the arm would not return to its original position. I can't understand why there is a large enough space where the spring sits to allow it to fold. Anyway, I fixed it by putting a small piece of rubber (anything will work) in the upper part of the "pocket" so the spring cannot fold into that area.
